Polypodium filix-femina Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 1090. 1753.
"Habitat in Europae frigidioris subhumidis." RCN: 7896.
Lectotype (Jonsell & Jarvis in Nordic J. Bot. 14: 149. 1994): [icon] " Filix mas non ramosa, pinnulis angustis, rarioribus, profunde dentatis" in Plukenet, Phytographia: t. 180, f. 4. 1692; Almag. Bot.: 151. 1696. - Typotype: Herb. Sloane 85: 127 ( BM-SL) .
Current name: Athyrium filix-femina (L.) Roth ( Dryopteridaceae ).
Note: In accordance with Art. 23.8, Ex. 19 of the Code, P. filix-femina is to continue to be treated as P. filix-femina . Although Bobrov (in Novosti Sist. Vyssh. Rast. 21: 8. 1984) indicated 1251.39 (LINN) as the type, this collection lacks the relevant Species Plantarum number (i.e. “38”) and was a post-1753 addition to the herbarium, and is not original material for the name.
