LITERATURE. — Green & Sayer (1979); Thonnérieux et al. (1989); Dowsett (1993); Balanca & de Visscher (1997); Mauvais (1998); Borrow & Demey (2001, 2014); Portier (2002c); Thiollay (2006a); Balanca et al. (2007); Sinclair & Ryan (2010); Pavia et al. (2012); Dowsett et al. (2013); Williams et al. (2014).

MUSEUM MATERIAL. — SMF 5366, 12589.

FIELD DATA. — eBird; GBIF; WABD.

STATUS. — Two subspecies are present: U. e. epops Linnaeus, 1758, Palaearctic migrant and U. e. senegalensis Swainson, 1837, Resident; Breeding.

REMARKS. — According to Borrow & Demey (2014) in Burkina Faso the species is present with both the Resident; Breeding U. e. senegalensis and the Palaearctic migrant U. e. epops Linnaeus, 1758. The presence of both subspecies is reported by Portier (2002c). All the other references refer to the species as a whole.
