Peliperdix coqui spinetorum (Bates, 1928)
LITERATURE. — Bouet (1955); Dowsett (1993); Balanca & de Visscher (1997); Borrow & Demey (2001, 2014); Balanca et al. (2007); Dowsett et al. (2013).
MUSEUM MATERIAL. — SMF 11390 , 11391 , 14653 , 14654 .
STATUS. — Resident?
REMARK. — P. c. spinetorum was described by Bates from “Haute Volta, 100 Km W of Say” ( Bouet 1955), which is nowadays in Nigeria. In fact, map of Borrow & Demey (2014) shows only a patch near the border between Burkina Faso and Nigeria. The specimens of the SMF bird collection (SMF 11390, 11391, 14653, 14654) are from a “fetish market”, thus the locality is uncertain and not verifiable (G. Mayr pers. comm. 2020). We found no other confirmed record, so the presence and status of this species in Burkina Faso need further assessment.
