VERTEBRAE: 5–6, 48–51, 114–126 (MVF 6, 49, 119). DISTRIBUTION: Indian Ocean. REMARKS: This species is known from the coast of India and the Red Sea. The single Red Sea Specimen has more vertebrae (126) than the Indian specimens (114–120) ( Smith and Böhlke 1997: 187).

REMARKS: Muraena richardsonii View in CoL and M. ceramensis were described in the same publication. Günther (1870: 118) included ceramensis in the synonymy of Muraena richardsonii View in CoL , becoming the first reviser.
