Type citation:—“ Heyne! in Wall.! L. n. 4751; Wight! cat. n. 440.— I. reticulata, Wall. ! L. n. 4750.— I. fasciculata, Klein ! in herb. Wight.”

Type:— INDIA. Karnataka: Maysore [Mysuru], s.d., Wight 440 (lectotype MH! Accession no. 7499, designated here; isolectotype MH! Accession no. 7500) .

Distribution:— India, endemic (Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu).

Notes:— Wight & Arnott (1834) described Impatiens tomentosa on the basis of specimens from ‘ Heyne! in Wall.! L. n. 4751; Wight! cat. n. 440.— I. reticulata, Wall. ! L. n. 4750.— I. fasciculata, Klein ! in herb. Wight ’. Pertaining to this specification, four specimens were traced (K001039821, K001039822 and MH [Accession no. 7499 and 7500]). The two specimens at (K001039821 and K001039822) though belong to Wallich cat. n. 4750 and 4751, but the specimens pasted on sheets are of I. oppositifolia Linnaeus (1753: 937) , not of I. tomentosa Wight & Arnott (1834: 139) . This error was also depicted by J.D. Hooker and he marked these specimens as I. oppositifolia . Hence, only the two specimens of Wight cat. n. 440 at MH have been considered here to choose the lectotype specimen for the name Impatiens tomentosa and the best one, MH with Accession no. 7499 is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue.
