Type:— INDIA. Pulney [Palani] Hills, 7000 ft., s.d., Beddome s.n. (lectotype K000694949 !, designated here; isolectotypes MH! Accession no. 7854 and 7857) .
Distribution:— India, endemic (Kerala and Tamil Nadu).
Notes:— Beddome (1858) described Impatiens phoenicea based on the specimens collected from Palani hills.Three herbarium specimens collected by Beddome from Anamalai hills are extant for this species, one at K (K000694949) and two at MH (Accession no. 7854 and 7857). The one best preserved, K000694949, is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue. The date January 1868 mentioned on sheet is the receiving date of the herbarium specimen at K from India, not the year of collection.
