TYPE LOCALITY: India, Kashmir, Ladak .
DISTRIBUTION: Ladak ( India), Tibet, Tsinghai and Szechwan ( China), adjacent Nepal and Sikkim ( India).
SYNONYMS: equioides, holdereri, nepalensis, polyodon, tafeli.
COMMENTS: Revised by Groves and Mazak (1967), who with Bennett (1980) separated kiang from hemionus ; but Schlawe (1986) regarded kiang as a subspecies of hemionus .
