Synamphichaeta tricincta Villeneuve, 1936 View in CoL
Synamphichaeta tricincta Villeneuve, 1936: 146 View in CoL . Type locality: La Gomera, Canary Islands, Spain.
The lectotype of Synamphichaeta tricincta Villeneuve, 1936 View in CoL . Photographs of the type material of Synamphichaeta tricincta View in CoL were kindly provided by MZHF for this study. Mesnil (1975: 1378) redescribed Synamphichaeta tricincta View in CoL based on the two syntypes, one male and one female, mentioned in the original description by Villeneuve (1936). Mesnil erroneously considered the male as the holotype and the female as the paratype. The male specimen bears the label “Gomera / Cumbre / R. Frey // 3263”. It was cited as “Gomera, Cumbre, Nr. 3268 (sic!)” by Mesnil (1975). The female specimen bears the label “Tenerife / Los Mercedes / R. Frey // 812” and was cited as “Teneriffa”. We interpret Mesnil’s (1975) explicit selection of the male as the “ holotype ” as an implicit lectotypification in accordance with Article 74.5 of the Code (I.C.Z.N. 1999). Therefore, we prepared the red label “ Lectotype / Synamphichaeta tricincta View in CoL / Villeneuve, 1936 / design. by Mesnil 1975 / det. Gilasian & Ziegler 2019” for the male specimen and the red label “ Paralectotype / Synamphichaeta tricincta View in CoL / Villeneuve, 1936 / design. by Mesnil 1975 / det. Gilasian & Ziegler 2019” for the conspecific female specimen. Both labels were sent to MZHF to be added to the original labels.
Remarks concerning the type locality. Our interpretation of the label data of the lectotype follows Villeneuve (1936: 146) and Frey (1936: 208–213). Frey interpreted “Cumbre” as the mountain forest near Agua Hilva, 600 m. “Cumbre” is the Spanish equivalent for “summit”. Aqua Hilva, currently written as Aquajilva, is an area with a few houses along the old road number 30 between Hermigua and San Sebastián (southeast of Hermigua). Therefore, our modern interpretation of the locus typicus is: Spain, Canary Islands, La Gomera, Cumbre near Aquajilva, 600 m, 28°07′51″N 17°10′57″W), Laurus forest, 12.VIII.1931, leg. Richard Frey.
