TYPE SPECIES: Cavia acouchy Erxleben, 1777 .

COMMENTS: Cabrera (1961:591) and Emmons and Feer (1990:210-211) recognized Greenish ( M. acouchy ) and Reddish (M. pratti) Acuchis as distinct species. This group needs to be revised.
