THE GENUS PSEUDOHESPERUS View in CoL
The phylogenetic analysis strongly supported the monophyly of the genus Pseudohesperus by very high branch support scores. It also showed the sister relationship of Pseudohesperus and Bisnius with low branch scores. This was consistent with the speculation of Hayashi (2008) based on morphological study. The generic diagnosis of Pseudohesperus provided by Hayashi (2008) is not precise because of the limited material he examined and now requires a few improvements and additions: (1) apical segment of maxillary palps distinctly narrower than penultimate segment; (2) apical segment of labial palps slightly longer than penultimate segment; (3) gular sutures narrowly separated at base; (4) pronotum more or less densely punctured, but with narrow, impunctate midline; (5) apical portion of mesoventrite distinctly convex ventrad; (6) mesoventrite without transverse carina; (7) marginal carina of mesocoxal acetabula more or less straight; (8) underside of paramere of aedeagus with sensory peg setae. The evolutionary relationship of all the members of Pseudohesperus was revealed by the phylogenetic analysis and can be correlated well with their zoogeographical patterns (see Zoogeography).
