Etymology: The name alatus refers to the ascospore have a sheath like wings.

Holotype: HKAS 99554 View Materials .

Saprobic on submerged wood. Sexual morph: Ascomata 345–376 × 640–686 μm, immersed, solitary, scattered, unilocular, subglobose to globose, black. Neck 265–400 μm, central, cylindrical, periphyses distinct. Peridium 31–75 μm thick, comprising outer layers with several brown, thick-walled cells of textura angularis and inner layers with hyaline, thin-walled cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium 1–2 μm wide, comprising septate pseudoparaphyses. Asci 99–114 × 17–37 μm (x = 107 × 20 μm, n = 20), 8-spored, bitunicate, fissitunicate, clavate, with a short pedicel, non-amyloid. Ascospores 22.5–27 × 8–11 μm (x = 24.7 × 9.6 μm, n = 50), 2-seriate at the apex, overlapping 1- seriate at the base, ellipsoid to fusiform, irregular, 1–2-septate, guttulate, hyaline when young and brown when mature, slightly constricted at the septum, smooth and thick-walled with a wing-like sheath. Asexual morph: Undetermined.
