Material examined

Two clearly conspecific female specimens from ‘Kandy’ [ SRI LANKA] are present in the BMNH type collection under 3c.389 with identical data labels and both bearing Cameron’ s hand-written type label ( Figure 21a, b View Figure 21 ). Baltazar (1972) claimed to have designated a lectotype, but there is no indication in her paper about which one it is and therefore that designation would appear to be invalid. We hereby designate as lectotype the specimen with NHM specimen number NHMUK010209584 since its wings are well spread.

Comments

This is one of two species of Gammabracon with the 5th and 6th metasomal tergites partly or entirely rufous, the other being G. curticornis sp. nov. Gammabracon erythroura can be distinguished from G. curticornis by forewing vein cu-a of the latter species being strongly postfurcal compared to only marginally postfurcal in G. erythroura ( Figure 21e, f View Figure 21 ) and by the far greater number of antennal segments in G. erythroura , c.65 compared to 38–41.

Additional features. Length of body 12.0 mm, of forewing 12.0 mm; of antenna 12.0 mm; of ovipositor 17 mm. Antenna with 65 flagellomeres; width of face:height of eye = 1.9:1.0:1.0; frons gradually impressed towards midlongitudinal sulcus; length of head behind eye 0.73 × length of eye in dorsal view; scutellar sulcus with only small midposterior notch ( Figure 21e View Figure 21 ); posterior margin of propodeum medially sharply defined from transverse subposterior depression, and medially with a distinct pit.
