Canda pecten Thornely, 1907: 182 View in CoL ; Harmer, 1926: 389; Lu, 1991: 49; Tilbrook, 2006: 54.

Material examined. NIBRIV0000707782, Geomeunyeo (underwater cave), 7 Jan. 2011 (B.S. Min; H.J. Yang) by SCUBA diving .

Substratum. Stones.

Description. Colony erect, branching; branches biserial, connected each other by rootlets given off proximally. Zooids rectangular, paralledsided lateral walls, usually bifurcated at 3 rd ( Fig. 4A, B View Fig ). Gymnocystal area minimal. Cryptocyst smooth, well developed proximally, not developed distally at all. Opesia almost triangular, asymmetrical, tapering proximally, with edges serrated. One short spine on each distal corner ( Fig. 4C View Fig ). Scutum wanting. Frontal avicularia triangular, directed proximally; rostrum elongate. Ovicells ( Fig. 4D View Fig ) with broad fenestra, usually occurring in small groups on branch, often with a vestigial avicularium. Basal vibracula triangular, locat ed obliquely across basal surface.

Remark. Canda pecten is characterised by its lack of scutum, its asymmetrical opesia and its frontal avicularia above branch bifurcations ( Tilbrook, 2006). C. pecten is very similar to both C. retiformis (Pourtales, 1867) and C. clypeata (Haswell, 1880) , however it is clearly different from these species by having no scutum. The genus Canda Lamouroux, 1816 from Korea includes two species, C. pecten Thornely, 1907 and C. retiformis .

Distribution. Korea, Japan, China, Burma, Andaman Islands, Madagascar, Indonesia (Strait of Makassar and Java Sea), Solomon Islands.
