Holotype male. BRAZIL. Santa Catarina: Seara, Nova Teutônia , 27o11’S 52o23’L, XII 1939, Fritz Plaumann col. ( AMNH). Paratypes, 5 males 10 females. BRAZIL. Santa Catarina: Corupá, X1953, A. Maller, 1 female ( UFRG); Seara, Nova Teutônia , 27o11’S 52o23’L, IX1939, Fritz Plaumann col., 1 male 1 female ( UFRG), 1 male ( USNM), 1 male 3 females ( AMNH); same data as holotype, 1 female ( AMNH); same data, 300 500m, 24 IV1966, 1 female ( USNM); same data, V1967, 2 females ( AMNH); same data, X1969, 1 female ( AMNH); same data, X1974, 1 female ( AMNH); same data, X1975, 1 male ( AMNH).
Small species (810 mm long). Body elliptical. Darkcastaneous to black. Dorsal surface flat. Punctures dense and homogeneously spread on dorsal and ventral surface. Rostrum reaching mesocoxae. Antennal segments: II the shortest, I, IV, III, and V the longest. Pronotum wavy. Anterolateral margin of pronotum toothed on proximal half and crenulate on distal one. Anterolateral angle not toothed. Mesosternum with a low medial carina restricted to the first third. Legs concolorous with body. Trichobothria on paleyellow calli. Body length: 8.29.7. Body width: 4.25.0. Head length: 1.71.9. Head width: 1.7 1.9. Pronotal length: 1.92.1. Pronotal width: 4.04.7. Scutellal length: 3.03.4. Scutellal width: 2.43.0.
Male. Genital cup hairy. Posterolateral angles conspicuous. Dorsal arms of superior layer (asl) laterally flat armed with toothlike projection, each arm oblique to proctiger. Posterior processes (ppsl) triangular, ventrally directed. Concavity of superior layer deep, pilose. Keel of inferior layer conspicuous. Paramere rectangular, laterally flattened with protuberance on each distal angle. Processus phallothecae digitiform, apex divergent. Processus conjunctivae 1 straight, divergent, twice or more longer than processus phallothecae. Vesica at least ¼ the length of the phallus.
Female. Posterior margin of gonocoxites 8 crenulate. Laterotergites 8 and 9 almost equal in length; laterotergites 9 slightly surpassing band joining laterotergites 8 dorsally. Diameter of ductus receptaculi before vesicular area about five times diameter of ductus after same area. Ductus receptaculi before vesicular area shorter than after vesicular area. Capsula seminalis oblong in profile.
Comments: Pedinonotus catarinensis may be recognised by its unique pygophore: arms of superior layer oblique to proctiger and dorsally projected; concavity of superior layer deep; margin of inferior layer with conspicuous keel. The vesica is quite large, occupying more of the phallus than that of other genera from the group. Female internal genitalia has also a noticeable character, a folded area at the bottom of the vesicular area of the ductus receptaculi.
