Epelaspis renatoi Graf & Kumagai, 1996: 774 View in CoL . Holotype female, Brazil (DZUP, not examined) [Coleção Pe. Jesus Santiago Moure, Universidade Federal do Paraná, Paraná, Brazil]
Material examined. 1 male. BRASIL, ES [Espírito Santo], Castelo, Pq. [Parque] Est.[Estadual] do Forno Grande , 15.X.2000, Varredura L 5, C.O. Azevedo col. (1 male, UFES) .
Diagnosis. Epelaspis renatoi can be distinguished from all other Neotropical species of Epelaspis by the combination of the following characters: (1) Antennal scrobe M-shaped without striae or punctation; (2) Clypeus with sulcus near distally margin ( Fig. 10C View FIGURE 10 ); (3) Area superomedia laterally delimited ( Fig. 10D View FIGURE 10 ).
Remarks. Male. Body length (head to T8) 5.13 mm. Head. Antennal scrobe without punctation or striae. Carinae V-shaped weak starting from the antennal socket and extending to almost half of the face, without papilla ( Fig. 10C View FIGURE 10 ). Gena length 0.22 mm. Eye height 0.62 mm. Ocellus diameter 0.10 mm. Shortest distance between anterior and posterior ocelli 0.06 mm. Shortest distance between posterior ocellus and compound eye 0.15 mm. Shortest distance between posterior ocelli 0.10 mm.
Mesosoma . Pronotum polished and smooth. Epomia present anteriorly. Metapleuron with sparse punctation. Epicnemial carina oblique. Epicnemium polished with sparse punctation. Mesopleuron and metapleuron polished, with sparse punctation and setae. Juxtacoxal carina present and area bellow with sparse rugae and punctation. Legs with punctation and short setae, tarsus with denticles; fore leg with one tibial spur, mid leg and hind leg with two asymmetrical tibial spurs. Fore wing length 3.61 mm. Hind femur length 1.44 mm. Hind tibia length 1.59 mm.
Metasoma. Tergites 5 and 6 without punctation. Tergite 1 length 0.80 mm. Anterior width of tergite 1 0.14 mm. Posterior width of tergite 1 0.36 mm. Tergite 2 length 0.56 mm.Anterior width of tergite 2 0.41 mm. Posterior width of tergite 2 0.62 mm. Tergite 3 length 0.48 mm. Anterior width of tergite 3 0.64 mm. Posterior width of tergite 3 0.65 mm.
Coloration. ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 ) Head brownish red. Face and clypeus yellow-orange. Scape brownish orange. Antenna reddish brown; pedicel apex, annellus and base of first flagellomere whitish yellow. Gena brownish red. Mandibular teeth whitish yellow with apex brownish red. Legs yellowish orange and tarsus brown. Hind trochanter, hind trochantellus, hind femur base and apex, hind tibia brown. Veins and pterostigma light brown. Tergite 1 brown with apex whitish yellow; tergites 2 onward light brown with apex whitish yellow.
Distribution. Brazil (Espírito Santo *, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul) ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 ).
Host. Unknown.
Discussion. Epelaspis renatoi is most similar to the E. ketiae for the clypeus rounded and face without papilla. However, E. renatoi differs from E. ketiae in the following characters: antennal scrobe M-shaped without striae or punctation (with striae or punctation in E. ketiae ), area superomedia delimited (not delimited in E. ketiae ) and tergite 1 polished and smooth (longitudinally striae in E. ketiae ).
