Discussion: Described independently as Bubalus mindorensis Heude, 1888 and Anoa mindorensis Steere, 1888 . Reviewed by Custodio et al. (1996, Mammalian Species, 520). A subspecies of B. bubalis according to Bohlken (1958), but restored to specific status, in subgenus Bubalus by Groves (1969b:10).
