Etymology. The specific name is to be treated as a Latin adjective and refers to the rattlesnake genus Crotalus Linnaeus , whose rattle at the end of tail is raised, becoming similar to the embolus of the male palp of this species ( Figs 43‒44 View FIGURES 43 – 46 ).

Diagnosis. Males of S. crotalica ( Figs 33 View FIGURES 30 – 38 , 43 View FIGURES 43 – 46 ) are similar to those of S. cepa ( Figs 32 View FIGURES 30 – 38 , 42 View FIGURES 39 – 42 ) by the elongate, thin embolus, but can be recognized by the embolus forming a clockwise spiral perpendicular to the axis of the left male palp.
