2.3. Divergence time within the “ magellanicus View in CoL ” lineage

To explore divergence times for the “ magellanicus ” lineage, a calibrated phylogeny was generated using BEAST v2.6.3 (Bouckaert et al., 2019), as implemented in the CIPRES Getaway portal ( Miller et al. 2010). Three secondary calibration points were used (normal distribution assumed: Table 2); these dates, which were obtained from Caraballo and Rossi (2018), were chosen for use in our analyses because they had been determined using both living species and fossil record, and includes representatives of all the recognized species groups. Node constraints within the “ magellanicus ” lineage were based on monophyletic taxon sets identified by our phylogenetic analyses (see Results). A relaxed lognormal clock model of substitution rate and the calibrated Yule speciation prior were used (Drummond et al., 2006; Heled and Drummond, 2012). Models were run using 1 × 108 MCMC generations, with sampling every 5000 generations. Convergence of output, mean, and 95% highest posterior density (HPD) divergence times estimated for the most recent common ancestor (tMRCA; crown ages) for each taxon set were visualized in Tracer v1.7 ( Rambaut et al. 2018). The parameter values employed in these analyses are available in the XML template provided in Supplementary Data SD2.
