Diagnosis. Members of the subtribe Rhinostomina are easily recognised by their mandibles curving outwards, the pronotum usually lacking postocular lobes (feeble in R. frontalis ; incorrectly reported as absent by Vaurie 1970 a and Morrone & Cuevas 2002), the tibiae usually being dentate and tarsite 3 bilobed.
Taxa included. A single pantropical genus, Rhinostomus , with eight species: six distributed in the Neotropics (one of them extending to the southern Nearctic), one in tropical Africa and one in the Oriental region ( Vaurie 1970 a, Morrone & Cuevas 2002).
Host plants. Agavaceae ( R. frontalis ) and Arecaceae (remaining species).
