Scaphura nigra (Thunberg, 1824) View in CoL
Fig. 19G, H View FIGURE 19
Distribution: Argentina: Misiones, Tucumán; Brazil: Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo; Paraguai: Paraguari.
New record for the Paraná State.
Comments: This species, as other within Scaphura , presents mimetic polymorphism that represents a Batesian mimic of wasps ( Pompilidae : Entypus Dahlbom, 1843 and Pepsis Fabricius, 1804 ; Vespidae : Polistes Ashmead, 1904 ), serving as a model to behavioural and evolutionary ecology studies ( Del-Claro 1991). We only recorded specimens similar to the Pepsis pattern ( Del-Claro 1991, Del-Claro & Vasconcellos-Neto 1992).
Bioacoustics: Sound not recorded.
