Diagnosis: acrostichal 0:1; dorsocentral 2:4; mid femur with three preapical setae; fore tibia with distinct median anterodorsal setae; male: intra-alar 1; proepimeron and proepisternum with dark setulae.

Color: general body coloration dark brown; frons dark yellow, apex darkened; facialia white; parafacialia, antenna and palpus light yellow; scutum with four dark stripes of grey pruinosity; calypters white; halter light yellow; wing hyaline.

Male. Length. Body: 3.6–4.4 mm; wing: 6.5–7.1 mm.

Head: eyes separated from each other by 0.1–0.12 mm, at level of ocellar tubercle; 12 pairs of frontal setae; ocellar seta large and parallel; postocellar seta large and divergent; inner vertical and outer vertical setae small and divergent.

Thorax: acrostichal 0:1; dorsocentral 2:4; intra-alar 1; proepimeron and proepisternum with dark setulae; fore tibia with distinct median anterodorsal seta; apex of fore tibia with setae on anterodorsal, dorsal, posterodorsal and posteroventral surfaces; mid femur with row of setae on anteroventral and posteroventral surfaces from base to middle; mid femur with three preapical setae, on dorsal, posterodorsal and posterior surfaces; apex of mid tibia with setae on anterior, dorsal, posterodorsal, posterior, posteroventral, ventral and anteroventral surfaces; hind femur with complete row of dorsal and anteroventral setae, and row of anterodorsal and ventral setae from base to middle; hind tibia with one median anterodorsal setae and two median anteroventral setae; hind tibia with anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal, posterodorsal, ventral and anteroventral setae at apex; wing with one dorsal and one ventral setae at apex of stem vein.

Abdomen: epandrium not projected at base, in profile.

Female (differing as follows): Length. Body: 4.6–4.7 mm; wing: 6.4–6.5 mm; eyes separated from each other by 0.3–0.33 mm, at level of ocellar tubercle; 8–9 pairs of frontal convergent setae, except for upper two pairs, parallel; ocellar seta large and postocellar seta small, both divergent; inner vertical seta large and convergent, and outer vertical seta large and divergent; sternite VIII with strong spike-like setae; epiproct with four setae, setae in square-shaped arrangement (2:2).

Comments: N. stabilis has a notable dark brown color. Snyder (1949) believed that N. instabilis could be a synonym for N. stabilis . The examination of the male and female terminalias confirmed both species as distinct (see N. instabilis above for details).

Type material examined: Holotype: male, chaetotaxy in good conditions; label: white, printed “ Holotype male / Mydaea / stabilis / Stein, 1911 / Conf. A.C. Pont 1999” | label: light green, handwritten “ Mydaea / stabilis / [? illegible]” | label: dark green, printed “ Peru, 150m / 18–11–03 / Pachitea-Münd” (SMT). Type-locality: source of the Pachitea River, Peru.

Other material examined: BRAZIL. Mato Grosso. 1 male and 8 females “Cáceres, MT / 24.XI.1984 / C. Elias leg / POLONOROESTE” ( DZUP) \ 1 male, same locality and collector, 06.XII.1984 ( DZUP) \ 2 females, same locality and collector, 10.XII.1984 ( DZUP) \ 1 female, same locality and collector, 17.XII.1984 ( DZUP).
