Thymus lanuginosus Miller (1768 View in CoL : n° 8) var. pannonicus ( Allioni 1773: 6) Heinr.Braun View in CoL in Heimerl (1911: 242) f. nicaeensis Heinr.Braun in Heimerl (1911: 242)
Type (lectotype, designated here):— ITALY. Südtirol. Gehänge bei der Törggelebrücke unter Waidbruck, 9 July 1909, Heimerl A. s.n. (W-Ronniger 1996-12815! up-left specimem; image of the lectotype is available at http://herbarium. univie.ac.at/database/detail.php? ID =158527) .
Protologue citation:—“bei der Törggelebrücke”.
Taxonomic notes:—The type specimen is characterized by the stem holotrichous, cauline leaves of equal size, elliptical and pubescent with prominent lateral veins. Taking these characters into account, Th. lanuginosus var. pannonicus f. nicaeensis might be considered as a heterotypic synonym of Th. oenipontanus Heinr.Braun ex Borbás. The latter critical species is distributed in France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria ( Machule 1957, Jalas 1970, Bartolucci 2010, Tison & de Foucault 2014, Bartolucci & Scharfetter 2015).
