Type Locality: India, "Doab"; restricted to "between Jumna and Ganges Rivers"; see discussion in Wroughton (1910:81).
Vernacular Names: Indian Long-eared Hedgehog.
Synonyms: Hemiechinus grayi (Bennett 1832) ; Hemiechinus indicus (Royle 1833) ; Hemiechinus spatangus (Bennett 1832) .
Distribution: Pakistan and NW India.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Formerly included in auritus , but Roberts (1977) indicated that there is discontinuity in distribution and morphology between collaris (which he called auritus collaris ) and auritus (which he called megalotis ).
