Type material. Holotype: female, SPAIN, Canary Islands, Gran Canaria, El Brezal del Palmital , soil/litter, Ilex laurisilva, 9.I.1988, 31A/88–3, coordinates 28.11223°N, 15.60166°W and 28.10958°N, 15.59709°W, 500–550 m a.s.l., (Loc. 50) A. Fjellberg leg. ( MZLU-VAR00001005 ) GoogleMaps . Paratypes: same data as Holotype, one specimen in ethyl alcohol ( MZLU-VAR00001006 ); Gran Canaria, Barranco Oscuro , moss on rocks, dry laurisilva, 8.I.1988, 27A/88, coordinates 28.06496°N, 15.58842°W, 750 m a.s.l., (Loc. 51) one female on slide ( MZLU-VAR00001005 ) and three specimens in ethyl alcohol ( MZLU-VAR00001002 to MZLU-VAR00001004 ) (All A. Fjellberg leg.) GoogleMaps .

Description. Body length up to 1.94 mm, excluding antennae (Holotype). Ground colour white or very pale yellow, only with pigment as small patches on dorsolateral Abd II–IV and posterior lateral Abd IV; head with pigment only between antennal insertions; antennae from the tip of Ant II to its tip ( Figs 2A View FIGURE 2 and 4A View FIGURE 4 ).

Head. Eight eyes, GH smaller than EF. Antennae length 1.10 mm, 2.50 times the length of the head. Ant IV with apical vesicle bilobed. The relative length of Ant I/II/III/IV = 1/2.07/2.00/2.27. Prelabral chaetae ciliated. Labral papillae multispinose ( Fig. 5E View FIGURE 5 ). Lateral process of labial papilla E 1/3 shorter than the papilla.

Body. Length ratio of Abd IV/III = 4.33. Trochanteral organ with 20 chaetae. Tibiotarsus not sub-segmented, without smooth chaetae, except for smooth terminal chaeta on legs III. Claw with four teeth: paired at 50% and first unpaired at 75% from basis; dorsal teeth basal ( Fig. 5F View FIGURE 5 ). Empodium lanceolate, with smooth external lamella in leg III. Tenent hair clavate. Length of manubrium and dens 0.40 and 0.48 mm, respectively. Manubrial plate with five chaetae and two pseudopores. Mucro with teeth similar in size, mucronal spine reaching the tip of the subapical tooth ( Fig. 5G View FIGURE 5 ).

Macrochaetotaxy ( Figs 5A–D View FIGURE 5 ). Simplified Mc formula: 3-2-0-3-2/2-4/2-3/1-2-1/0-4-3-2-2. Head: H1 area with Mc An2, An3a1 and An3; H2 area with two Mc (A5–A6); H4 area with three Mc (S1, S3 and S4); H5 area with Ps2 and Ps5 Mc. Mesothorax: area T1 with two Mc (m1 and m 2i); T2 with four Mc (m4, m 4i, a5 and m5). Abdomen: Abd II area A1 with two Mc (a2 and a3), area A2 with three Mc (m3, m3ep and m3ea m3eai2; at one specimen, asymmetrically m3eai2 is present as mesochaeta); Abd III with one Mc each on areas A3 (a1) and A5 (m3e) and two Mc on A4 (a2 and a3); Abd IV with four Mc on A7 area (A3, B3, A e3 and C1), three Mc on A8 (A4, B4 and C2a), and two Mc on A9 (A5 and B5) and A10 (A6 and B6).

Ecology. The area where the specimens were captured is a forestal-bushy mix area of laurisilva with Ilex spp.

Etymology. The name is dedicated to Achuteyga, a prominent Guanche (ethnic from the Canary Islands) warrior from the island of Gran Canaria.

Remarks. If the macrochaetotaxy of Th II and Abd III is considered simultaneously, only a single species of the genus share the presence of the simplified formula for these tergites (2-4 and 1-2-1): E. dorsolineata Jordana, Schulz & Baquero, 2011 , with a differentiated colour pattern based on longitudinal dorsolateral lines; additionally E. dorsolineata has differences in the macrochaeta formula (4-2-0-3-1b/2-4/2-5/1-2-1/0-1 0 7-0-3- 3 in E. dorsolineata ) and other morphological characters—the development of a subapical tooth on the mucro (bigger than apical), the shape of the labral papillae (with a projection chaeta-like) or the length of the antennae, shorter in E. dorsolineata . Other species from the Canary Islands described below in this paper ( Entomobrya grimanesae sp. nov., E. guayarminae sp. nov. and Entomobrya cf. quinquelineata ) share the macrochaetae formula Th II, Abd II and III tergites, but the colour pattern is completely different. Table 1 shows that five, nine and four characters separate these species respectively.
