Description. Body length up to 1.90 mm, excluding antennae (Holotype: 1.88 mm; average: 1.78 mm, n = 6). Ground colour white, or very pale yellow, only with pigment (pale violet) on head front and—only in some specimens—posterior lateral Abd IV; antennae with pigment on Ant I tip, half distal Ant II and whole Ant III and IV ( Figs 3E View FIGURE 3 , 4M View FIGURE 4 ). A dark form with the only difference is the colour distribution has been found. Ground colour pale or very pale violet, darker violet or blue pigment on many parts of body: a dorsal triangle on Th II; dorsolateral and central area of Th III to Abd III, almost whole Abd IV with exception of small paler patches on anterior tergite, and more or less three larger patches on central and dorsolateral area, and all of Abd V–VI; legs and antennae covered with pigment ( Figs 3D View FIGURE 3 –D’, 4R). This colour pattern is different from E. naziridisi . ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 D’’).
Head. Eight eyes, GH smaller than EF. Antennae length 0.89 mm, 2.35 times the length of the head; Ant IV with apical vesicle simple (bilobed in one specimen); relative length of Ant I/II/III/IV = 1/1.82/1.64/2.09 (n = 11 for all measurements). Prelabral chaetae ciliated. Labral papillae multispinose ( Fig. 15E View FIGURE 15 ). Lateral process of labial papilla E reaching the papilla end.
Body. Length ratio of Abd IV/III = 3.98 (n = 8). Tibiotarsus not sub-segmented, without smooth chaetae, except for smooth terminal chaeta on legs III. Claw with four teeth: paired at 50% and first unpaired at 75% from basis; dorsal teeth basal ( Fig. 15F View FIGURE 15 ). Empodium lanceolate, with serrated external lamella in leg III from its last middle. Tenent hair clavate. Length of manubrium and dens 0.28 and 0.38 mm, respectively (average for n = 5). Manubrial plate with 4–5 chaetae and two pseudopores. Mucro with teeth similar in size, mucronal spine reaching the tip of the subapical tooth ( Fig. 15G View FIGURE 15 ).
Macrochaetotaxy ( Figs 15A–D View FIGURE 15 ). Simplified Mc formula: 3-1-0-3-2/2-4/2-4/1-2-2/0-3-4-2-2. Head: three Mc An on H1 area (An2, An3a1 and An3), one Mc (A5) present on area H2; three Mc on Area H4 (S1, S3 and S4) and with Ps2 and Ps5 on Area H5. Mesothorax: area T1 with two Mc (m1 and m 2i); T2 with four Mc (m4, m 4i, a5, and m5). Abdomen: Abd II area A1 with two Mc (a2 and a3), area A2 with up to four Mc (m3, m3ep, m3e and m3eai2); Abd III with one Mc on areas A3 (a1) and two Mc on areas A4 and A5 (a2, a3 and m3 and m3e), sometimes an additional Mc or mes (m3a) in the subspecies described; Abd IV with three Mc on A7 (A3, B3 and C1), four Mc on A8 (A4, A e4, B4 and C2a) and two Mc on A9 (A5 and B5) and A10 (A6 and B6).
Ecology. Found between 12 and 3530 m of altitude in Tenerife, on moss, plant debris and grass. In Fuerteventura, in open shrubland, on vegetation. In Gran Canaria, on moss on rocks in dry laurisilva. In Lanzarote, in Aenonium and Euphorbia litter.
Etymology. Iraya was the name of a princess of the Guanche ethnic group.
Remarks. Only E. naziridisi shares its chaetotaxy on Th II, Abd II and Abd III with the new species, but they differ by the Abd IV chaetotaxy, with one Mc on A6 area (sometimes absent) and five Mc on area A8 and a longer apical tooth on mucro. The colour is quite different, completely dark on E. naziridisi . After the paper of Ding et al., 2018 about relationship between DNA perfil and colour, we think that this form, so different that the described E. irayae sp. nov, could be a different species but it is overlapped in the Tenerife Island with the wider distribution of the sp nov.
