Remarks.

Dahlbom (1845: 14) described Chrysis mediocris on a single specimen from Guinea, received by Westermann and currently housed in his collection at the MZLU. Later Dahlbom (1850: 140) described the same species under a new name, Chrysis modica , adding one specimen from Port Natal collected by J. Wahlberg and deposited at the NHRS, and another specimen from Promontorium Bonae Spei [= Cape of Good Hope] found in Spinola’s collection (MRSN). In his last work Dahlbom (1854: 326) gave a detailed description in Latin of Chrysis modica , and described a new European species with the name Chrysis mediocris Dahlbom, 1854. The latter is a junior homonym of Chrysis mediocris Dahlbom, 1845 (currently Chrysis subsinuata Marquet, 1879). The first available name for Chrysis modica Dahlbom, 1850 is therefore Chrysis mediocris Dahlbom, 1845. Bohart (in Kimsey and Bohart 1991: 437) designated the lectotype.
