Notes

This species was commonly encountered growing on sandstone rocks and outcrops surrounding MDRS; the black, dot-like apothecia stand out well on tan-coloured sandstone (Fig. 15). Polysporina gyrocarpa was previously reported from Wayne County as Sarcogyne oligospora H. Magn. ( St. Clair et al. 1991) and as Polysporina oligospora (H. Magn.) K. Knudsen ( Knudsen and Lendemer 2005), and from the San Rafael Swell ( Knudsen and Kocourková 2009).
