This species was collected from the gills of Boops boops , Spicara maena and S. smaris .
On several occasions, N. cygniformis was reported in the western Mediterranean and in the Adriatic parasitizing a number of Sparidae and Centracanthidae : B. boops , Diplodus sargus and Pagrus vulgaris ( Richiardi 1880) , S. smaris ( Brian 1906, in Italy, Porto Ferraio), S. maena (Delamare-Debouteville & Nunes 1952, in Banyuls; Manier et al. 1977, in Sète), Diplodus annularis ( Radujkovic & Raibaut 1987, in the Adriatic), B. boops , S. maena and S. smaris ( Raibaut et al. 1998) .
