Diagnosis. A variable species. The pale, light brown to light grey forewing with black stigmata and ochreousbrown patch on ⅓ of the dorsum ( Figs 13, 14 View FIGURES 13–28 ) can be considered as the most constant external diagnostic characters. Ancylosis oblitella ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 13–28 ) is darker, greyish-black, more contrasting, ante-medial and post-medial lines are usually more distinct, the patch on ⅓ near dorsum is black rarely mixed with ochreous-brown (entirely ochreous-brown in A. roscidella ), male flagellum with the shorter cilia, and the segment 2 of the labial palpus is narrower. For the differences from A. cinnamomella see under that species. The male genitalia are characterized by weakly apically narrowed uncus in combination with long (subequal in length with valva) tegumen and culcita with short anteromedial invagination ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 33–38 ). The differences from closely related A. bartelella were recently discussed ( Tsvetkov 2018a). The female genitalia are characterized by gradually broadened proximally, long corpus bursae (longer than ductus bursae) densely covered with long thorn-like signa ( Fig. 68 View FIGURES 66–68 ). Ancylosis albicosta differs in the distinctly rounded proximal portion of the corpus bursae.

Biology. The species inhabits salt marshes and halophytic steppes. Larvae feed on Bassia muricata (L.) Asch. ( Robinson et al. 2010 –2019) and on Halogeton sp. in southern Kazakhstan ( Falkovitsh 1969a: 458). In Dvujakornaya bukhta near Ordzhonikidze (Crimea) the adults were observed very abundant around Petrosimonia triandra (Pall.) Simonk that is undoubtedly the additional host plant of this species. Adults fly from May to mid June and then in July-August in two generations. The mature larva most likely overwinters.

Distribution. From Canary Islands through North Africa, South, South-East (and partially Middle) Europe, Middle East, Turkey and Central Asia to Buryatia Republic of Russia, Mongolia and Northern India (Kashmir) ( Roesler 1973; Speidel 1996; Sinev 2008). In Ukraine the species is known from Crimea ( Bidzilya et al. 2003; Budashkin 2004, 2006) and Zaporizhzhia regions. The record from Kyiv region (Sovinskyi 1935: as Heterographis ephedrella Herrich-Schäffer, 1860 ) is a misidentification of A. oblitella . The record of Ancylosis harmoniella based on single female from the Karadagh Nature Reserve in Crimea ( Budashkin & Savchuk 2010) actually belongs A. roscidella .

Remarks. Phycis roscidella was described from unspecified number of specimens collected “ad Volgam inferiorem”. A single male without abdomen from Sarepta kept in ZIN was designated a lectotype ( Sinev 1990a: 125). Its colour photograph was published recently ( Sinev et al. 2017: 549, pl. 4, fig. 7). Ancylosis bartelella described from Uralsk (W Kazakhstan) was recently taken out from synonymy with A. roscidella ( Tsvetkov 2018a) .
