Diagnosis. Ancylosis albicosta is recognizable externally by comparatively broad dark brown forewing with light brown subcostal area and with contrasting white costal margin ( Figs 1, 2 View FIGURES 1–12 ). Ancylosis brunneonervella Roesler, 1970 from Mongolia is very similar by the wing pattern, but the forewing are more elongated. The moderately broad, parallel-sided in proximal half valva with distinct sacculus, broad cucullus and distinct elongated subcostal hump in combination with short aedeagus (as long as the length of the valva) are characteristic for the male genitalia ( Figs 33, 34 View FIGURES 33–38 ). The female genitalia are characterized by distally narrowed corpus bursae with rounded proximal portion, and long, narrow thorn of signa ( Fig. 59 View FIGURES 59–62 ). Other species of Ancylosis with generally similar female genitalia ( A. roscidella , A. harmoniella , A. unicinatella ( Ragonot, 1890) , A. transcaspica ( Amsel, 1955)) well differ in the wing pattern.

Biology. Host plant is unknown. In Ukraine the species was registered in the Lower Dnipro sand dunes ( Fig. 76 View FIGURES 76–79 ) from mid April to early May and then in late June. Adults were attracted to light and observed flying in the day time.

Distribution. Libya, Romania, Russia (Middle and Lower Volga region, Southern Ural), North-West Kazakhstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Iran, Afghanistan ( Roesler 1973; Speidel 1996; Sinev 2008). In Ukraine the species is known from Kherson region ( Bidzilya et al. 2011: 70, pl. 5, fig. 3; as syrtella ( Ragonot, 1887)) .

Remarks. Myelois albicosta was described from two males and one female from Sarepta. The lectotype is not designated. The male cited as “type” by Roesler (1973: 413) should be considered as a syntype. Its photograph was recently published ( Trofimova 2017: 621, pl. 40, fig. 2). The specimens from Ukraine match well to those from type series both externally and in the male genitalia except for slightly narrower valva.
