The genus Neoconger View in CoL View at ENA   ZBK differs from M. edwardsi in having only one lateral pigment spot on midlateral line and a small one on the dorsal surface of the intestinal loop (Smith, 1989d). In this work three Neoconger   ZBK larvae were identified only during the winter cruise and as they were too small to count the myomeres were considered Neoconger   ZBK sp. Although they lack the lateral melanophore they are probably Neoconger mucronatus   ZBK Girard. According to Smith (1989d) this character may be absent in very small larvae (<7 mm). Neoconger   ZBK sp. leptocephali were collected in the north region of Bahia State and nearby the Davis bank (Figure 10). Study Material: DZUFRJ 2824, 2825, 2827; three specimens; 5.8-7.9 mm SL.
