Andrena fallax Eversmann, 1852: 20 View in CoL , ♂.
Type locality: not indicated.
Published (original) locality: “in promontoriis Uralensibus australibus”.
Lectotype: ♂, designated by Proshchalykin et al. 2017a: 8, fallax Ev. , ♂ [handwritten by E. Eversmann] // Lectotypus Andrena fallax Eversm. , design. Osychnjuk, 1980 <red label> // Lectotypus Andrena fallax Eversmann, 1852 , design. Proshchalykin et al. 2017 <red label> // Andrena ispida , ♂, D.A. Sidorov det., 2021 // Zoological Institute St. Petersburg INS_HYM_0000274.
Current status. Andrena (Leimelissa) fallax Eversmann, 1852 , stat. resurr.
Taxonomical note. Following Dalla Torre (1896: 121), Warncke (1967: 269) and Gusenleitner & Schwarz (2002: 176) considered Andrena fallax to be a junior synonym of A. chrysosceles Kirby, 1802 . However, the lectotype specimen of Andrena fallax is conspecific with A. ispida Warncke, 1965 , syn. nov. [corresponds to the description of A. ispida as well as specimens determined by Osytshnjuk as A. ispida in the ZISP collection]. According to article 23.9.1. of the ICZN (1999) prevailing usage of “ Andrena ispida ” as a valid name must not be maintained since A. fallax Eversmann, 1852 was mentioned as a valid name by V. Popov (1950) and A. ispida Warncke, 1965 has been mentioned in fewer than 25 publications.
Remark. Description of female: Warncke 1965: 264, as Andrena ispida Warncke, 1965 .
Although E. Eversmann reported this species from “promontoriis Uralensibus australibus”, the lectotype is without a geographical label and the species is unknown under name of A. ispida from the South Urals and adjacent territories at present. It is not excluded that the lectotype specimen may come from the Caucasus, since materials from this region are also available in the Eversmann’s collection .
Distribution. South-eastern Europe, Caucasus, Turkey. This species recently was recorded from Syria and Iran by Praz et al. (2022) and Wood & Monfared (2022).
