Dohrniphora commina View in CoL sp. n.
( Figs 235–236)
Species recognition. The hind femur of this species is similar to that of D. bispinosa Borgmeier and D. fernandezi , with which it probably forms a monophyletic group. The hind tibia of D. bispinosa has two or three large anterodorsal setae, however, and the ventral margin of the hind femur has a small rounded toothlike process between the peglike setae and the distal process ( Brown & Kung 2007, figs 43–44). The hind femur of D. commina has the peglike setae and the emargination closer together, and the abdominal tergites are mostly dark brown (mostly yellow in D. bispinosa and D. fernandezi ).
Description. Body length: 2.28–2.44 mm. Head: Frons brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, orange. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron with proepisternum and dorsum of anepisternum brown, rest of pleuron yellowish-brown. Mean costal length 0.50 wing length, range 0.49–0.50. Halter brown. Legs yellowish-brown, except apex of hind femur dark brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 4–5 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa blackish-brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe light brown, moderately developed, triangular in lateral view. Posterior face of hind femur with small basal triangular group of peglike setae on basal triangular lobe; more distally with small emargination followed by short, rounded, toothlike process; process with white membrane visible with light microscopy ( Figs 235–236). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 light brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown, with yellow anterior and posterior margins. Venter of abdomen whitish-gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.
Distribution. Costa Rica and Peru.
Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin for close by, referring to the lesser distance between peglike setae and emargination on the hind femur than in the similar D. fernandezi .
