Dohrniphora pellicula View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs 151–152, 289)

Species recognition. This species can be recognized by the extensive area of membrane immediately distal to the peglike setae, as well as the distal margin of the concavity, which is folded back basally. It is most similar to D. parvilobata , a species in which the membranous area is much smaller.

Description. Body length: 1.44 mm. Head: Frons brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron light brown. Costa 0.45 wing length. Halter whitish-yellow. Legs light brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa light brown. Hind coxal lobe not developed. Posterior face of hind femur with basal group of peglike setae on large, rounded, basallyextended lobe; immediately distally with large membranous area near as large as area covered by peglike setae; ventrally with spinuli-filled concavity with strongly-developed distal margin that folds back basally ( Figs 151–152, 289). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 light brown, tergites 2–6 brown. Venter of abdomen whitish-yellow, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.

Distribution. Known from a single site in Amazonian Brazil.

Derivation of specific epithet. Latin for skin, referring to the extensive membranous area on the hind femur.

Holotype. ♂, BRAZIL: Amazonas : Manaus, 3.13°S, 60.02°W, PDBFF Reserve 1210, 3.x.1985, B. Klein, Malaise trap, R.L.E. [ LACM ENT 234197 View Materials ] ( INPA). GoogleMaps
