( Figs 115–116, 283)

Species recognition. The hind femur of D. atrilinea is similar to that of D. nigricarina , but in that species the group of peglike setae is more oval in shape, and an additional small, toothlike carina is present.

Description. Body length: 1.53–2.19 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron brown. Mean costal length 0.49 wing length, range 0.47–0.51. Halter whitish-yellow. Legs light brown. Forecoxa in lateral view light brown. Foretibia with 4–5 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa brown. Hind coxal lobe brown, only slightly developed. Posterior face of hind femur with basal, largely peripheral, group of peglike setae; more distally with spinuli-filled concavity surrounded by carina that appears black or dark brown in light microscopy ( Figs 115–116, 283). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia brown, cercus yellow.

Distribution. Mexico to western Colombia. The elevational range of this species in Costa Rica, from near sea level to 1600 m, is unusually large.

Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin for black ridge, referring to the carina on the hind femur.
