Species recognition. This species is most similar to D. lamella , but differs by the more enlarged foretarsomeres, the larger, dark brown hind coxal lobe, and the larger area on which the peglike setae are placed.

Description. Body length: 2.25 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, except light brown on anterior margin and around bases of setae, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum brown, with setae broken. Pleuron light brown. Costa 0.47 wing length. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres 1–3 enlarged, inflated. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellowishbrown. Hind coxal lobe brown, large, rounded, forming median cuplike concavity. Posterior face of hind femur with small basal group of eight peglike setae; more distally with small ventral concavity with posterior carinate margin ( Figs 71–72). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 yellow, tergites 2–6 yellow medially, anteriorly and posteriorly, dark brown laterally, with medial yellow area decreasing in every tergite posteriorly. Venter of abdomen yellow, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.

Distribution. Known from a single site in Brazil.

Derivation of specific epithet. Named for our colleague, Dr. Hiroto Nakayama, who has provided us with some important phorid specimens.
