( Figs 93–94)

Dohrniphora gravis Borgmeier & Prado, 1975: 32–33 View in CoL , fig. 52.

Holotype. ♂, BRAZIL: Pará: Belém , vii.1965, H.S. Lopes ( MZSP; not examined). The specimen has not yet been returned to the MZSP, so was unavailable for study.

Species recognition. We are designating the specimens we have seen that are closest in appearance to the illustration in Borgmeier & Prado (1975) as D. gravis , although we have not examined the holotype.

The pattern of setation varies considerably within this species, and more than one lineage might be represented. It most closely resembles D. matamatae and D. sinuicarina , but differs by the form of the carinae.

Description. Body length: 1.59–2 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, brown. Palpus slightly enlarged, inflated, light brown. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-third length of posterior seta. Pleuron brown. Mean costal length 0.52 wing length, range 0.51–0.52. Halter light brown. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe light brown, short, with ventral, dorsally curved, bare digitiform process. Posterior face of hind femur with peglike setae forming dorsal line and ventral group to short line; more distally with rounded carina ( Figs 93–94). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia brown, cercus yellow.

Distribution. Amazonian Brazil and Colombia.
