Diagnosis

Helcystogramma furvimaculare sp. nov. can be separated from other species of the trijunctum group by the forewing with indistinct scale tufts on cell and on fold, the costal margin black in basal third, with a small black spot near two-thirds length, and the uncus with anterolateral margin obliquely truncate in the male genitalia.

Description

Adult ( Figure 9F View Figure 9 ). Wingspan 16.0 mm. Head greyish-brown, frons yellowish-white. Antenna with scape dark brown on dorsal surface, white on ventral surface; flagellum dorsally with several basal segments dark brown and the remainder alternately yellow and dark brown, ventrally pale ochreous-yellow. Labial palpus with second segment about three times length of diameter of eye, about twice length of third segment; first and second segments dark brown on outer surface, yellow mixed with dark brown on inner surface; third segment with dorsal surface yellow, ventral surface dark brown in basal two-thirds, yellow in distal third. Thorax greyish-brown except yellowish-brown posteriorly; mesothorax with greyish-brown hair pencil arising from anepisternum in male; tegula dark brown in basal two-thirds, yellowish-brown in distal third. Forewing slightly narrowed at base, apex narrowly rounded, termen oblique; ground colour yellow, with scattered dark brown scales; costal margin black in basal third, with small black spot near two-thirds length; scale tufts at middle of cell and at middle of fold indistinct, represented by black spots; fringe ochreous-yellow, mottled dark brown at apex. Hindwing and fringe greyish-yellow. Legs with outer surface dark brown except tarsomeres yellow apically, inner surface yellow.

Male genitalia

Uncus subtriangular, with a small triangular process posteriorly, medial width about three-fifths of basal width; about one-fifth length of valva ( Figure 13D View Figure 13 ). Gnathos slightly narrowed from base, slightly shorter than one-quarter length of valva; culcitula broad, nearly trapeziform, straight posteriorly. Valva much longer than tegumen– uncus complex, almost parallel sided, slightly broadened before apex, bluntly rounded apically; ventral free lobe stout, with sparse long setae. Vinculum with lobes distinctly projecting at middle on inner margin, distal half abruptly narrowed. Saccus straight anteriorly. Aedeagus broad at base, narrowed gradually to four-fifths, distal fifth narrow and tubular. Eighth tergite nearly quadrate, rounded posteriorly ( Figure 10O View Figure 10 ).

Female

Unknown.

Distribution

China (Guizhou).

Etymology

The specific name is derived from the Latin prefix furv-, meaning black, and Latin macularis, meaning macular, referring to the small black spot near costal two-thirds length on the forewing.
