3. Sesleria robusta Schott, Nyman & Kotschy (1854: 1)

Type:— CROATIA. Dalmatia , Mt. Promina, [s.d.] Malý, F. s.n. (lectotype, designated by Di Pietro et al. 2017, W1885-0002336!, image of the lectotype available at http://herbarium.univie.ac.at/database/detail.php?ID=256613) .

= Sesleria nitida Ten. var. intermedia Beck (1903: 27) .

Type:— BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA. Otiš in der Prenj, 1888 , Beck s.n. (lectotype, designated here, PRC!, Fig. 4 ).

Notes on Sesleria nitida var. intermedia :— Beck (1903) published this taxon with a short diagnosis (“β intermedia. Ko i pregjašnja, ali je i prividni klas jajast do kratko valjkast, od proloke 2–3-cm, dugačak, 8–10 m debeo” = “As before [ var. nitida (sub var. α typica)], but the spike is also apparently ovate to cylindrical, 2–3 cm long, 8–10 mm wide); no specific locality was mentioned. Beck’s Herbarium is preserved at PRC and W (see HUH Index of botanists 2013 onwards). We traced two specimens in PRC, both preserved in the collection “Plantae Bosniae et Hergegovinae” (as indicated on the original labels). The notes left by Beck on these two specimens are the following: “ Sesleria nitida var. intermedia | Otiš in der Prenj [a mountain of Dinaric Alps in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina] Pl. 1888 Beck ” and “ Sesleria nitida v. intermedia | Auf der Bjelašnica [a mountain of Dinaric Alps in central Bosnia and Herzegovina] 1888 Beck ”. These two specimens are part of the original material and agree to Beck’s diagnosis. According to the current concept in Sesleria ( Kuzmanović et al. 2017) and our expert knowledge, they should be classified as S. robusta . We here designate the specimen collected at Prenj mountain as the lectotype of the name Sesleria nitida var. intermedia ( Fig. 4 ).
