Type Locality: Colombia.
Vernacular Names: Stump-tailed Porcupine.
Synonyms: Echinoprocta epixanthus (Martínez 1873) ; Echinoprocta sneiderni (Lönnberg 1937) .
Distribution: Colombia, montane areas of the eastern cordillera of Andes between 800 and 2,000 m ( Eisenberg, 1989).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Included in Coendou (Sphiggurus) by McKenna and Bell (1997) and Alberico et al. (1999).
