Material examined — TÜRKIYE, Aydin Province, TR12-2023 Tabakhane stream near Kalfaköy , 37.8744° N, 27.8459° E, 18.iii.2023, leg. Pešić 2♂ (sequenced, HYDIR023-23 , HYDIR024-23 ) GoogleMaps . IRAN, Khorasan-e Razavi Province, IR13-2022 Kahne stream, 36.6054° N, 56.928° E, 2.viii.2022, leg. Pešić 5♂ (sequenced; HYDIR039-23 , HYDIR040-23 , HYDIR042-23 , HYDIR043-23 , HYDIR049-23 , Table 1) GoogleMaps .

Remarks — The sequenced specimens from Northeastern Iran and Western Türkiye were clustered within BOLD:AFG4655, which includes specimens from Northern Iran morphologically assigned to T. baueri . Populations of this species have often been confused with those of T. barsica (Szalay, 1933) . Torrenticola baueri , was originally described by Bader & Sepasgozarian (1987) from a stream in Northern Iran but later on synonymized by Asadi et al. (2010) with T. barsica . Recently, Pešić et al. (2021a) barcoded T. baueri specimen from Northern Iran and resurrected the latter species as valid and distinct from T. barsica . Clear morphological differences are confirmed with a large p -distance, more than 11%, between these two species. New findings confirmed by molecular results indicate that this species has a wider distribution and the former records of T. barsica from Türkiye (see Erman et al. 2010, 2019 for references) likely should be assigned to T. baueri .

Distribution — Iran, Türkiye.
