Emphytopsis nigromaculata ( Takeuchi, 1952) , comb. nov. (Fig. 7)
Taxonus nigromaculatus Takeuchi, 1952: 53 .
Description: Paratype: Ƥ.
Body length 10 mm. Yellow brown; an anchor-like spot on dorsal side of head (Fig. 7c), inner side of scape, lateral side of propleuron, a small elliptical spot near lateral margin of pronotum, broad elliptical spot on prescutum, one large elongated spot connected to a small round spot on each lobe of scutum, parapsis of mesonotum largely, centre of mesopostnotum, a small spot near cenchrus, a pair of small spots on posterior part of metapostnotum, ventral 0.4 of mesepisternum, a fading stripe on anterior margin of mesepimeron, a pair of small spots in lateral sides of abdominal tergites 1 and 2, a pair of large and triangular spots on dorsal-lateral sides of tergites 3–7, a pair of small spots on dorsal-lateral sides of tergite 8, apical 0.33 of hind femur, apical 0.25 of hind tibia except for apical margin, and apical sheath (Fig. 7e) black; ventral side of abdomen entirely yellow brown; distance between two black spots on tergites 1–3 much more than 2× breadth of a spot; apex of mandible dark reddish; body hairs silver. Wings hyaline, vein C, basal 0.3–0.4 of stigma pale brown, apical 0.6–0.7 of stigma and other veins blackish brown (Figs. 7a, 7b).
Body strongly shiny; clypeus sparsely punctured, head otherwise hardly punctured; mesonotum including mesoscutellum shallowly and evenly punctured, mesepisternum shallowly and very sparsely punctured, interspaces broad; abdominal tergites with very fine microsculptures, shiny.
Anterior margin of labrum triangularly protruding; anterior margin of clypeus incised to 0.6× clypeus length; malar space about as long as radius of lateral ocellus; POL: OOL: OCL = 11: 20: 27; postocellar area weakly elevated, as long as wide, lateral furrows feebly curved at about middle, subparallel to each other; head behind eyes in dorsal view slightly shorter than eye, lateral sides roundish. Antenna quite slender, not strongly tapering toward apex, relative length of antennomeres about 7: 5: 18: 14: 12: 8: 7: 6: 6. Vein R+M in forewing as long as free sector of Sc, lower outer corner of cell 2Rs distinctly extended, vein 2r joining cell 2Rs slightly beyond middle. Petiole of anal cell in hind wing about 0.2× length of vein cu-a. Mesoscutellum quite flat, posterior slope shorter than anterior slope; mesepisternum indistinctly elevated; distance between cenchri 1.1× longest axis of a cenchrus. Hind basitarsus about 1.05× longer than tarsomeres 2–5 together; claw with inner tooth about 0.6× length of apical tooth (Fig. 7d). Ovipositor sheath as long as metabasitarsus, apical sheath slightly longer than basal plate, subtriangular at apex in lateral view (Fig. 7e); in dorsal view sheath about 2× as wide as cercus, setae on lateral sides of sheath short, roundly curved. Lancet with about 18 serrulae, membrane between serrulae convex, 5th–7th serrulae and 11th–13th serrulae as in Figs. 7f, 7g.
Male: Unknown.
Variation: Takeuchi (1952) has already stated that the basal abdominal maculae may be larger or smaller. The anchor-like macula on head in a specimen is reduced to a small triangular spot. The black maculae on metapostnotum and on the first abdominal tergite may be very small or even missing. The black stripe on anterior margin of mesepimeron is distinct in two specimens and fading to hardly visible in one specimen. The extent of the black on hind femur and tibia is slightly variable. The anterior margin of labrum is roundly and narrowly protruding in three other specimens.

Distribution: Japan (Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu) ( Takeuchi, 1952).
Remarks: The holotype of this species was deposited in OPU but it cannot now be found (Dr. Hirowatari Toshiya, personal communication). The above description and figures are based on the paratype, which agrees well with the original description, a named specimen identified by Takeuchi and the original description given by Takeuchi (1952).
Togashi (1992) figured head (in dorsal view), mesothorax, fore wing, apex of sheath (in lateral view), the tenth to thirteenth serrulae, harpe and parapenis of T. nigromaculatus Takeuchi. However , according to the original description and examination of a paratype of T. nigromaculatus , the specimens identified as T. nigromaculatus Takeuchi by Togashi (1992) are not T. nigromaculatus Takeuchi but belong to E. shinoharai sp. nov.
