Small gray/black flies, 16–18 mm. This species is the smallest of the South Korean Promachus , and is distinguished by its entirely black legs and black abdomen with gray marginal bands. Female ovipositor ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19–25 ) with elongated 6–9 segments (as for the subgenus Trypanoides ). The body is covered with lighter, apically twisted white hairs (corkscrew-like) at apices.
Adult. Male.
Head: Face covered in dense light yellow pile. Mystax with long, black bristles dorsally and ventrally, white medially. Genae with fringe of long dense white hair ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19–25 ). Occipital fringe of shorter white hair merging into short black postocular hair and bristles. Black ocellar, orbital and facial hair sparse. Antenna black with black hair. Thorax light and dark gray integument with black acrostical hair in rows. Black paramedian stripes merging into one broad stripe, lateral spots well defined. Pleura covered in light gray pollen, white and black hair. Chaetotaxy with: 2 notopleural, 2–3 supraalar, and 3 postalar bristles. Posterior dorsocentral hair black, sparse. Black scutellar hair; long black marginal bristles. Legs entirely black with long white and short black hair, bristles black. Fore and mid femora with exceptionally long white trailing hair pos- teroventrally. Tibiae with sparse white hair. Tarsi all black. Wings ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–4 ) with strongly pigmented cell r 2+3; cell r 1 with narrow stripe at apex. Abdomen black with light gray marginal bands. Tergites with short black dorsal hair; laterally with abundant, long, sliver/gray hair. Tergite 1 largely gray pollinose. Sternites with abundant, long, silver/white hair. Male genitalia ( Figs 19–25 View FIGURES 19–25 ) elongated. Epandrium club-shaped. Gonostylus ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 19–25 ) hook-shaped with a hooded appearance. Aedeagus ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 19–25 ) elongated & excised, 3 pronged.
Female. Similar to male except ovipositor ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19–25 ) of 4 segments, elongated and compressed laterally.
