Diagnosis. Female and subadult male. Carapace with vertical depression just posterior of anterior margin, producing a flared effect on the anterior margin. Pereopod 2 covered in fine hair-like setae. Telson longer than uropod peduncles. Uropod endopod triarticulate, subequal to exopod.

Adult male. Unknown.

Remarks. The most similar species in New Zealand waters is Gynodiastylis chathamensis , with a similar flared carapace. However, the species are readily distinguishable by the telson , with the telson longer than the uropod peduncles in Axiogynodiastylis fimbriata and the telson distinctly shorter than the uropod peduncles in G. chathamensis . The depth range increased from 760–1065 m to 422–1199 m, all specimens collected from the Chatham Rise.
