Now Aplonis panayensis strigata ( Horsfield, 1821) .

See Amadon in Mayr & Greenway, 1962: 83 (Peters Checklist volume XV). Horsfield described both taxa on the same page, but Turdus strigatus was listed before Turdus chalybeus . Curiously, Amadon did not follow Sharpe (1890) who listed chalybeus and strigata and used Calornis chalybea , thus probably acting as First Reviser: this taxonomic issue is however outside the scope of our paper and might be treated in more details elsewhere (Edward Dickinson pers. comm.).

Syntypes: MHNG 129.051 , unsexed adult, and MHNG 129.052 , juvenile, both collected in Java between 1811 and 1817 by T. Horsfield .

Comment: They were incorrectly labelled as male and female on the basis of their distinct plumages. The NHM has two syntypes ( Warren & Harrison, 1971: 104).
