Taxonomic notes. The comparison of type material of both taxa confirms that Hydrocanthus paludimonstrus Miller, 2001 is a junior subjective synonym of H. paraguayensis Zimmermann, 1928 . Females of this species can be easily identified for the particular combination of dark reddish-brown pronotum and dark reddish-brown elytra with yellowish marmorations ( Fig. 8b View FIGURE 8 ), prosternum laterally and medially setose, prosternal process entirely setose except along the apical margin, metaventrite laterally and apically setose ( Fig. 2k View FIGURE 2 , 8c View FIGURE 8 ), and large size (5.15 mm).
