Distribution and remarks: East Atlantic: known from Portugal to South Africa, including Madeira and Cape Verde. Regularly caught by the artisanal fishery, especially with beach seine at Cap Lopez and trawlers along the coast of Gabon (Chartrain and De Bruyne, pers. obs.). Replaced by Selene setapinnis in western Atlantic. These two species have not been adequately studied and may prove to be conspecific.
