Type:— INDIA. Kerala, Travancore, Kollam dist., Colatoorpolay (Kulathupuzha), Nov. 1893, M. A. Lawson 95 (lectotype K-000793259!, here designated).

Syntypes:— INDIA. Kerala, Travancore, Kollam dist., Colatoorpolay (Kulathupuzha), Nov. 1893, M. A. Lawson 95 ( MH) ; India, Kerala, Travancore, Kollam dist. , Colatoorpolay (Kulathupuzha), 29 Nov. 1893, M. A. Lawson 5731 ( MH) ; Kerala, Kollam dist., Kulathupuzha , 17 April 1916, K. Venkoba Row 3581 (K-000793258!) .

Distribution:— India, endemic (Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu).

Notes:— Gamble described Litsea travancorica on the basis of specimens from ‘ S. India. Travancore hills, Colatoorpolay, Nov. 1893, M. A. Lawson ; April 1916, K. Venkoba Row 3581 ; Mankulam , March 1911, K. Venkoba Row 4081 ’, but no specific herbarium sheet was designated as holotype. Except K. Venkoba Row 4081 gathering, four specimens belonging to the gatherings of M. A. Lawson and K. Venkoba Row 3581 were traced, two at K (K-000793258 and K-000793259) and two at MH. Of these, the best one, K-000793259, is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue and also in having drawing of dissected flower by J. S. Gamble .
