Material examined. Holotype. 3. NEPAL, Ktmd., Pulchauki, 6600', Mal. tr., 18.VII. 1967, Can. Nepal Exp. (in CNC). Paratypes (3 only). Description. 3. Head. Palp and other mouthparts yellow, clypeus and face brownish, posterior parts of head brown. Antenna brown, scape, pedicel and base of 1st flagellomere yellow. Length of 1st flagellomere about 2.5x, 2nd flagellomere 2x, its width. Thorax. Pronotum yellow, with 3 long setae. Scutum brownish to brown with indistinct stripes. Anepisternum yellowish. Mesokatepisternum yellowish, ventral half brownish. Scutellum brownish, with 4 long setae. Laterotergite brownish. Mediotergite brownish, bare. Wing. Length 2.8–3.9 mm. Wing hyaline. Sc ending in R1 slightly distad of middle of small cell, Sc1 missing. Apical part of Sc bearing 3–15 small setae. Small cell 1.5– 2 x as long as wide. Cu fork slightly proximal, below or slightly distal to M fork. M ratios: 0.79–0.96, 1.05–1.24. Cu ratios: 0.68–0.71, 1.09–1.21. Small cell: M petiole: 0; M1: 0–5; M2: 0–1; Cu petiole: 0; Cu1: 0–2; Cu2: 0–5. Halter pale yellowish. Legs. Coxae yellow, femora yellow, tibiae and tarsi brownish to brown. Coxa 2 without spur. Leg ratios: bt1:t1 = 0.76–0.88, bt2:t2 = 0.67–0.69, bt3:t3 = 0.56–0.59. Abdomen. Tergites brown, 3–5 with yellow anterolateral spots, sternites yellow, lateral margins of sternites 6–7 brownish. Hypopygium. Figs. 5 View FIGURE 5 A–E, yellow. Sternal lateral appendage long, narrow, its blunt apical part curved backwards ventrally ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 C). Sternal submedian filament almost straight, blunt-tipped, shorter than the sternal lateral appendage ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 B). Apex of aedeagus rounded in lateral view ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 D). Female (from type locality). Wing length about 4 mm. Thorax yellow, scutum with 3 distinct brown longitudinal stripes, middle stripe with narrow yellow medial band, ventral half of preepisternum, laterotergite and posterior part of mediotergite light brownish. Abdominal tergites yellow with brown posterior halves, sternites yellow, sternites 5–7 with brownish posterolateral corners. Leg ratios: bt1:t1 = 0.75, bt2:t2 = 0.61, bt3:t3 = 0.50. Terminalia yellow. Uncertain ƤƤ (from Dobang Kharka) with wing length 4.1–4.8 mm, brown scutum with 2 yellowish longitudinal stripes and brown abdominal tergites with yellow anterolateral spots on tergites 2–6.
Discussion. Mycomya cuon differs from the other species of the subgenus Cymomya in the curved and blunt shape of the sternal lateral appendage ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 C) and in having an almost straight sternal submedian filaments, which are shorter that the sternal lateral appendage ( Figs. 5 View FIGURE 5 B–C).
Etymology. The species name is a noun in apposition and refers to the dhole, the Indian wild dog (genus Cuon ).
