Genus Picinyssus Fain, 1969

Picinyssus Fain, 1969: 369 .

Type species: Picinyssus buccanodon Fain, 1969 by original designation.

Diagnosis. Palps with 1 segment. Hypostome without setae. Propodonotal shield present. Propodonotal region with 5 pairs of setae (vi absent). Hysteronotal region with 5 pairs of setae (h2 absent). Agenital series with 2 pairs of setae. Genital series with 3 pairs of setae. Pseudanal series with 2 pair of setae. Setae 1a, 3a and 4a present. Number of leg setae: coxae 2–1–1–0, trochanters 0–0–0–0, femora 5–3–2–1, genua 4–4–3–3, tibiae 5–3–3–3. Setae situated in anterior part of tarsi I –IV normally developed.

Remark. The monotypic genus associated with birds of the order Piciformes and recorded in the Afrotropical region ( Fain 1969).
